Mike and Patty entered the world of online technology when they started developing apps as a part-time family business in 2010. Both have been involved in the public education system and both graduated from Western Illinois University.
Mike spent 20 years as a tax accountant and real estate broker until entering the teaching profession in 1998. During his 16 years in public education, Mike held various positions at the High School level. He was the lead teacher at the school’s Content Mastery Center, which was a support center for students with disabilities who were mainstreamed into the regular classroom. In 2002, he was selected as the school district’s Secondary Teacher of the Year by having over 90% of his CMC students pass their TAAS exams. During his years involved in Special Education, he also served as the Assistive Technology Coordinator, Transition Specialist, and Special Education Campus Coordinator. After leaving special education, Mike was the Academic Decathlon coach and classroom teacher, and taught the AVID college prep classes. The AVID classes were at-risk students who were identified as having college potential. Mike developed online tutorial for his AVID students, and his classes routinely had a 10-20% higher passing rate than the rest of the campus (the 20% increase was in the reading & writing exams). Mike also served as the Campus Testing Coordinator for the High School. During his last year in public education, he conducted Instructional Technology Focus Groups for the teachers at our High School. Mike retired from teaching in 2014 to spend full time on technology training & web development, after which he become involved in the cyber security business. He has developed several online courses designed for test prep for secondary students and online safety for students, individuals and business employees. Mike is also a member of a joint public-private FBI task force known as Infragard, which was created to help defend our nation’s interest against cyber attacks and to promote cyber awareness to the public. Mike also authors an e-newsletter know as Home Cyber Defense Weekly to train the public to recognize and avoid cyber threats.
Patty retired from the education profession after 25 years of teaching. She taught all subjects at the Elementary level and specialized in World and U.S. History for Intermediate students. Patty was recognized by the Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Boards in 1988. She was honored by the Pearl Harbor Survivors of the San Jacinto Chapter as their Teacher of the Year in 2000. Patty was Teacher of the Year for 2011 at her school. Patty was also the owner and operator of Rio Desktop Publishing where she specialized in graphic art & design. Patty has taught iPad/iPhone courses at a local community college.
Mike & Patty currently own House of File Technologies in Dickinson, Texas were they conduct classes and tutorials, create websites, and produce online courses aimed at helping students have success on today’s high stakes exams. They also have various Education Apps in the App Store for iPhones/iPads and the Windows Store for Windows 8/10 devices.
